Responsibilities

We are looking to hire a registered dietitian who has apassionfor working with students' health needs. You will have the opportunity to work with our upper-level dining management to maintain and raise the high nutritional standard of our KU Dining Departments. Your responsibilities will include nutritional analysis of recipes/menus, assisting with monitoring CBORD NetNutrition program, training full-time and part-time staff on proper food handling techniques for food allergies/gluten free diets, special diet consulting with college students and liaison with dining managers/Assistant Directors, training coordinator/facilitator/preceptor for year-round internship programs; developing and implementing staff wellness programs, assisting in development of annual nutrition education programs/materials. You will also serve as a member of KU Dining Services Education Committee and be a KU Dining representative for campus committees significant to student health and wellness.

Supervision received & given:
You will receive direct supervision from the Assistant Director of Residential Dining while working collaboratively with dining managers and support staff. The Student Coordinator Dietitian supervises and evaluates interns majoring in dietetics/nutrition/food service management/related fields and assists dining managers/supervisors in monitoring staff working in allergy-friendly concepts.

Essential functions:
1. Financial Responsibility
  • Request special equipment and/or small wares for units
  • Assist in procurement of special diet products via vendors and/or local grocery stores.
2. Managing People
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate annual internship programs –set schedules, review/revise manuals, plan tours and projects, works directly with students throughout their program.
  • Liaison with dining staff and other campus partners overseeing the performance of student interns.
3. Food Quality Management
  • Primary contact for students (and/or parents) with medically diagnosed/documented special diets.
  • Inspect dining units periodically to ensure adherence to food allergy/GF diet guidelines.
4. Managing Customer Focus
  • Schedule and facilitates both full & part-time employee training related to special diet/food allergies.
  • Build sessions/programs for dining services staff on nutritionandwellness topics.
  • Collaborate with KU Dining’s affiliates and partnerships with campus departments with education and wellness events.
5. Achievement Focus
  • Coordinate monthly sessions/communications with unit managers as a reminder to staff about importance of food allergies/GF diet practices.
  • Liaison with Academic Achievement and Access Center (AAAC).
6. Business Ethics
  • Encourage the trust of others while working with integrity and treating all with respect and positive communication.
  • Keep dedications towards assignments while being a role model leader in Dining Services.
  • Maintain confidential record keeping, storage of records and adherence to FERPA rules.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:
  1. Registered Dietitian or Registration eligible within 6 months of hire
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related field
  3. Allertrain U trainer certified or the ability to become certified in first 6 months
  4. Minimum one-year experience in field
  5. Experience in facilitating orientation and/or training sessions
  6. Proven customer service experience with specific regard to dietary consultation
  7. Computer knowledge/proficiency in Microsoft applications
Preferred qualifications:
  1. ServSafe certified or certified to teach ServeSafe or the goal to gain certification within one year of hire
  2. Nutrition analysis systems such as Net Nutrition
  3. Professional, thorough and effective written and verbal communications skills
  4. Provenorganizational skills with strength in prioritization
  5. Demonstrated enthusiasm for nutritionandwellness in collegiate dining
  6. Demonstrated ability to be creative and innovative in a dynamic higher education environment
  7. Demonstrated strong decision-making skills
